GC Italia Travel Together
“The use of traveling is to regulate imagination by reality, and instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are.” – Samuel Johnson
In September 2012, seven Melton Fellows from Chile, China, Germany and India went on a journey through Italy – but with a difference. Along with seeing sights like the Colosseum, they wanted to gain insight into various cultural, political and social issues through the eyes of local people. They asked people in Italy this question: “What do you think about Global Citizenship” and invited them to share their ideas, hopes, aspirations, and doubts. Eight video interviews with regular people from different walks of life – from a Senegalese street vendor to a tour guide – reveal more about present-day Italy than any travel guide would. These eight personal stories give a rare glimpse of the heart of Italy – and myriad views on Global Citizenship, too.
