While still in school, Karla Araya wanted to take action against climate change. She decided to start with the most immediate sphere of influence – her family. “I shared with my family every speech of Al Gore I found on the Internet, to make them realize how real and near the effects of climate change are.” But it wasn’t until she had a discussion at the dinner table that her family made the move to start recycling. It started with a small act. But today, as a PhD student at a Center of Waste Management and Bioenergy in Chile, Karla has made a career out of her passion.
