Helping Build Self-Esteem and Reinforce Relationships in Mañiuco
A visit to a rural school in Mañiuco, Chile, helped build stronger self-esteem and peer relationships in children, and also resulted in a slight but impactful change to the Social Service Project from the Universidad de la Frontera (UFRO) campus.
The second visit to school included three workshops. The first, for pre-kindergarten through second grade taught on the subject of communication skills. Another workshop for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders taught English, and the last workshop, for 6th and 8th graders, helped work on self-esteem and friendship, and reinforcing peer relationships.
However, one of the most interesting results of the meeting was that the team made a decision to reformulate the project, in order to create a closer relationship with the teachers and generate a real impact in the workshops as they move forward.
The flexiblity to change and adapt, according to the needs of local communities, is at the heart of each project!
