ZU Global Citizenship Education
The team of Fellows from Zhejiang University in China is offering global citizenship education courses to various local schools around Hangzhou, China. The project aims to educate elementary school children how to become a modern citizen in a globalized world. This includes awareness for global citizenship, but also practical skills and tools to deal with global challenges.
A main focus of the courses is on environmental protection and develop students’ capacity for critical thinking. They aim to show children in elementary schools how environmental problems are global in scope and need to be addressed on a local as well as a global level. They combine theoretical knowledge with practical exercises and experiences. Some of the specific classes include:
- Globalization and Our Daily Life
- Critical Thinking and Business Thinking
- World Geography and Foreign Countries’ Culture
- Speak Loud to the World
- Math and Life
- The Secrets of Your Body
- How Computer Technology Connects the World
All subjects are connected to global citizenship by way of connecting them to solving global challenges. Thus we plan to bring students new knowledge as well as a different perspective to think about their daily life.
