In these Field Trips, you can explore how local solutions take on global challenges while experiencing life in Hangzhou, China.

 

Field Trip: Education Differences & Global Education

Location: Hangzhou No. 14 Middle School (located near the West Lake, about 20 minute bus drive from the science park) 

In this session, participants will have a chance to attend a traditional Chinese class and communicate with Chinese middle school students about their daily life and culture. All the participants are required to prepare a presentation related to their own country's education system and their understanding and experience of global citizenship education, which they will share with others during the session.

 

Field Trip: Technology & Sustainability

Location: Hangzhou Fulun Ecological Technology Co., Ltd. (located in Fuyang, about one hour drive from the science park)

Hangzhou Fulun Ecological Technology Company is specialized in the recycling of discarded soft milk boxes and producing renewable products using the discarded milk boxes. In addition to recycling, the company also works on environmental education. In this session, participants will have a chance to visit the company and to see the factory in operation. In addition to visiting, participants are required to share their knowledge and experience of recycling in their own countries. They will also get the chance to make handcrafts with recycled products.

 

Field Trip: Technology & Sustainability II

Location: Tianziling Landfill Ecological Park (About a half-hour drive from the Science Park)

Tianziling Landfill Ecological Park is the first ecological park in China, which is built on a former landfill site. Since May of 2007, Tianzilling’s first landfill has been filled and is closed down. The park has been opened to the public since 2010. In this session, participants will have a chance to visit the ecological park and learn about landfills, how to properly dispose kitchen waste, etc. In addition, the participants will also have a face-to-face talk with Professor Liang from Friends of Nature, one of the most influential NGOs in China that works in environmental protection.
