The call for applications to the Melton Foundation's 2015 Deep Dive is now open. This year's Deep Dive is themed “Public, rural education and indigenous people in Chile: an opportunity for global citizenship education 2.0?” and will benefit Mañiuco School near Temuco, Chile.

This month, we asked our featured Melton Fellow, Carolina Aedo, 3 key questions to learn more about how her experiences with the Melton Foundation helped her on her award-winning and entrepreneurial path.

Education in China relies heavily on exams -- To succeed in the system, students often memorize what they are taught without true understanding, a method called ‘rote learning’. This phenomenon can be observed in all schools across the spectrum, jeopardizing the long-term benefit of education and the future success of students in a globalized economy. 

The second “Leveraging Networks for Impact” roundtable took place on November 19th at the Institute for International Education (IIE), convened by IIE, the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs and the Melton Foundation. Other representatives of institutions that fund or manage global networks of scholars, fellows, or other types of leaders joined them to share best practices for how these networks can contribute to transformative positive change.

This month, we asked five key questions of our featured Melton Fellow, Mandy Schönfeld, to learn more about her first impressions, key influencers and ideas for our future as Global Citizens. 

As the year comes to a close, we're happy to look back on all the hard work our Fellows have accomplished over the year and recognize their hard work, as well as all the support our community has given to help Melton Fellows reach their goals. 

Our newest partner campus has just recently held its first Melton Foundation activity on campus! About 50 members of the Ashesi community participated in an informaitonal and Q&A session on campus, including students, faculty and staff. 

Our Indiegogo campaign for the Mañiuco School was a great success, thanks to your help! This campaign made it possible to purchase new books and renovate their library!

In November 2014, Melanie Miller Garrett and Lars Dietzel represented the Melton Foundation at the International Civic Society Week in Johannesburg, South Africa. Read about their journey here!

The Melton Foundation Campus in Jena, Germany invited intercultural trainer Barbara Nietzel to hold a workshop on the concept of "culture". Melton Fellows and other students from Jena University joined the workshop to learn the theoretical concepts behind the topic and discuss it in context to their own lived experience. 

After one year of intense preparations, site visits for interviews, and post-production, the short-film, "Narratives,“ was shown at a public screening at Friedrich Schiller University, in Jena, Germany on November 20th, 2014. More than 60 people filled the small room, sitting on chairs and tables, to watch the movie and discuss its contents and production with the project team members. 

A group of Melton Fellows worked together with two German NGOs, Iberoamerica and Eine-Welt-Haus, to organize an innovative encounter between Mapuches, Chileans, and Germans. This meeting of cultures, all coming from different but unprivileged backgrounds, was the starting point for a new partnership of mutual learning and support.

For over 10 years, Senior Fellows of the Melton Foundation have guided New Fellows as they discover the diversity and pootential of the Melton Foundation. Another cycle of our legendary Godparents Program is about to start.

Six Melton Fellows recently traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to join climate leaders from across the globe to interact, network and work together to find solutions to climate change at the Climate Leadership Training, organized by The Climate Reality Project (TCRP).

Mexican activist Ricardo Velázquez shared his experience organizing protests for a more democratic education system.

The Melton Foundation is proud to announce our membership in the Practical Impact Alliance (PIA), a new initiative based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), from MIT D-Lab.

The Melton Foundation just relaunched a series called Melton Shares, now with a stronger focus on the personal stories of experience. A forum for Melton Fellows and friends of the Melton Foundation, Melton Shares describes personal experiences and stories of those who promote global citizenship through their actions.

The next Melton Share will be held on 22 November 2014.

We are opening the call to all Fellows and Task Team members to participate as Trainers in the New Fellow Orientation (NFO) in Frankfurt, Germany from March 5-9, 2015 and are looking for skilled and experienced trainers.
