About New Orleans

Beignets. Bourbon Street. Jazz. New Orleans Saints. And so much more!

New Orleans, Louisiana is one of the world's most fascinating cities. Steeped in a history of influences from Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and beyond, it's home to a truly unique melting pot of culture, food and music.

The French Quarter:

The French Quarter, also known as Vieux Carré - or the “Quarter” to locals, sits on a crescent in the Mississippi River on some of the highest ground in New Orleans. It is not only the city’s cultural hub, but is also a community where residents take time to reminisce with neighbors about times gone by and to welcome visitors in the streets. Besides its obvious architectural distinction, the Vieux Carré offers visitors a plethora of different experiences. Around the bend of every corner you may find an eclectic shopping destination, delicious restaurant, or history museum. Browse the treasure trove at the French Market, catch some sun in Jackson Square, or munch on beignets at Café Du Monde.

Bourbon Street:

The partying never stops on Bourbon Street, the French Quarter's liveliest and wildest thoroughfare, where the rhythmic sounds permeate the air. Brimming with life, you'll find everything from shopping to music to Cajun food to nightclubs and strip joints.

Frenchmen Street:

Light years removed from the glitzy neon lights and blaring cover music of Bourbon Street but, in reality, only walking distance away, is a compact musical enclave where the “locals” hang out. A two-block-long entertainment district where, on any given night of the week – including normally dead Mondays – you can hear live sounds and a wide variety of music as only New Orleans musicians can perform. Within the two-block stretch of Frenchmen Street you are likely to hear anything from jazz to Latin to blues to reggae . . . and just about everything in between. Inside the clubs or outside on the street, you’ll hear some of the best live music produced anywhere in the city.

Magazine Street:

For shopping, dining or just a casual stroll, no street in New Orleans is quite like Magazine Street. A six-mile-long stretch of this Garden District and Uptown thoroughfare features some of the best antique stores, art galleries, craft shops and boutiques to be found anywhere in the city.

Tours:

Guided tours are a popular way to see sites of the city off the beaten path. Some of the most popular tours include: Cemetery tours, Swamp tours, Riverboat tours, Neighborhood tours (if you like to run, check out the award winning New Orleans Jogging Tour) and Plantation tours.

Museums:

New Orleans has over 40 unique museums. Some of the more popular destinations are the National World War II Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, Audubon Zoo, Audubon Insectarium, McKenna Museum of African American Art, The Old U.S. Mint, The Presbytere (Mardi Gras Museum), and the Southern Food and Beverage Museum.
