Springboard Sessions: Stories That Inspire Action

October 3, 2014: 3 - 7 PM (15:00 – 19:00 h)
Georges Auditorium, Dillard University

Springboard Sessions are talks that inspire, challenge and, above all, motivate people to take action on some of today’s most challenging problems. At the 2014 Global Citizenship Conference Springboard Sessions, you’ll experience incredible leaders from around the globe sharing intimate stories from their lives and work.

Throughout the session, our speakers will actively engage audience members – from getting their views on effective models for basic education in schools to ending violence against women.Afterward, you get to meet one of the leaders and dive into ideas for action with them in an up close and personal setting.

Springboard Sessions reveal, stimulate, provoke and yes, are the springboard for new actions. They’re the stimulus for new thinking and new action for global citizens – in New Orleans and beyond.

Our stellar speakers for the 2014 Springboard Speakers include:

Vicky Colbert, Escuela Nueva

It’s a cliché that education can transform lives, but how many educational institutions really practice what they preach?  Hear Vicky Colbert describe how she empowered children in Colombia –and now around the world—to be the real actors of change and reform in education through the Escuela Nueva model. Learn more about Vicky's work.

Emily May, Hollaback!

Tony Porter, Call to Men

For all you men out there: What would life be like if you didn’t have to be trapped in your Man Box?  Tony Porter will share his experiences re-envisioning his attitudes and those of thousands of men to create a "world where all men and boys are loving and respectful and all women and girls are valued and safe". Learn more about Tony's work.

Joseph Sebarenzi, Former President of the Parliament of Rwanda

In the face of atrocity, how does somebody choose forgiveness and reconciliation over bitterness and revenge? This was the path taken by Joseph Sebarenzi after losing his parents and seven siblings in the Rwanda Genocide to become Speaker of Rwanda’s Parliament and international advocate for conflict resolution. Joseph will share how he brings people together around their common humanity.
